INDEPENDENT EXAMINATION

All charities with an annual income of over £25,000 must arrange for an independent person or accountancy firm to carry out an audit or independent examination of their charity’s accounts. The purpose of this is to give the trustees, and those who support or fund the charity, some independent assurance that the charity’s money has been properly accounted for and accounting records kept.  Although not a requirement for charities with an income less than £25,000 per annum, independent examination can still be a valuable exercise for smaller organisations as it provides assurance that funds have been properly accounted for.  Being Treasurer of a charity can be a big responsibility and understandably many Trustees are not aware of the full requirements of charity accounting standards.  An independent examination completed by a qualified and experienced professional gives you piece of mind that your end of year report and accounts are compliant with the relevant guidance.

PREPARATION OF ACCOUNTS

All charities with an income in excess of £10,000 are required to prepare a Trustees Annual Report along with a copy of their accounts and file a return within 10 months of the charity’s financial year end.  Many Trustees, especially those with limited financial experience find preparation of end of year accounting statements a daunting and time-consuming task.  If this sounds familiar, then please get in touch for a free, no-hassle quote.  I can ensure that your accounts are accurate, reflective of underlying records and compliant with all of the requirements of relevant accounting practices and Charity Commission guidelines.

Preparation of accounts and independent examination can be completed at the same time and the above services can be tailored to your specific needs.

SUPPORT & ADVICE

Many small charities often have limited resources and rely on the work of volunteers to ensure their on-going success and sustainability.  I understand that many charities may have tried and tested processes in place for the management of their finances, however, there are often occasions when simple support is required – maybe a question regarding the contents of the Trustees report or how best to reduce the risk of fraud within your organisation.  I can help you with these queries and will deal with your initial enquiry free of charge.
